Dr. Batra will often recommend fluoride application as part of a child’s overall dental treatment, as fluoride has been shown to help prevent tooth decay. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral in all water sources, and according to the American Dental Association, is very safe when administered in proper amounts by the dentist.
In our office we use a fluoride varnish and use a small brush to carefully apply the Fluoride on your child’s teeth, and usually explain to the child that we are painting on very important “vitamins” for their teeth. Over the years we’ve found that this “paint brush” approach is much easier and much more pleasant for children, compared to the older method of using removable fluoride trays, which often made some children gag.
